Jim Sharp was born October 6, 1965 in Kermit, a small West Texas town. His parents are James and Billie Sharp. He has a sister, Laurie and a brother, Jason.

Jim's dad always had an interest in the ranching industry and his mom was the granddaughter of pioneer ranchers and her dad was a ranch cowboy. So, it was no surprise when Jim showed such interest in being a cowboy at a very young age.

He rode everything from a rocking horse to the crouch or chair arms as a toddler. As he got a little older, he would ride roping calves or any moving object. He seemed to have no fear.

He actually started riding in rodeos at age 9.

His first rodeo was Pecos, Texas. He bucked off before the gate was hardly opened and I thought maybe that would discourage him. Oh no, he wanted to go to the next one, Andrews, Texas. He won that show and that was the start of Jim Sharp "WORLD CHAMPION".

Jim had a very normal childhood; he was a cub scout, attended church, played sports and was an average student.

He was in all sports through junior high, but as he entered high school, he had to start picking and choosing.

His love was always rodeo and rode in an average of 3 per week, at times.

He played high school football... A 140-pound nose-guard and running back and was able to maintain his rodeo requirements. It wasn't easy, but possible.

His AJRA and high school rodeos were very successful, being awarded many honors.

He completed high school and attended Odessa College. At OC he again was very successful.

Jim's professional career began while attending Odessa College. He won many awards and accomplished much and is currently a PBR bullrider, still accomplishing great things.

Jim is a very quite, caring person... Always bringing home the little boy with no parents, the little dog with no home, the child that no one else would play with. As an adult, he still has a caring heart and giving spirit.

Jim enjoys helping his friends work cattle, taking care of his horses, roping, family and friends. He is especially fond of his two young nieces and spending time with them. And of course, riding bulls.

In 1986, at the NFR Finals, Bob Tallman described Jim as a "great young man".  I tend to agree with him.
